Patriots Coach Invokes Science Deflated-football Dustup

8

When an erudite man tells you: “We all know that air pressure is a function of the atmospheric conditions,” you’re likely at a scientific lecture.

However, when the erudite man also tells you: “I am not a scientist,” you worry that you’ve stumbled onto the set of an antacid commercial.

Sadly, the team was then accused of providing underinflated balls during the first half of the game. (NFL rules have it that footballs must be inflated to between 12.5 and 13.5 psi, or pounds per inch.)

14

Today, Belichick stood up in a press conference (recorded by Mediaite) and claimed he’d personally done some research.

His conclusion? Climate change between the locker room, where the balls were allegedly inflated to an approved pressure of 12.5 pounds per square inch, and the field materially affected the firmness of the balls.

His lecture’s summation: “The atmospheric conditions, as well as the true equilibrium of the ball, is critical to the measurement.” Belichick underlined that the balls hadn’t been inflated in heated conditions.

Ergo, science proves that the Patriots are innocent. Or at least the Patriots’ science does.

EA knows what it’s doing by ramping up the surprises to the FIFA 15 game and that means extra fun for all around as well as increased revenue. Can You Connect Right Now

FIFA 15

We can confirm that for some reason, the EA servers are down today on January 22. We thought that the issue may be specifically related to FIFA 15, but we have since seen others having problems with the likes of BF4 and Madden NFL 15 servers as well.

If you are just about to play a round of FUT, you’ll have to wait as for the moment you can’t log into FUT. As far as we’re aware, there hasn’t been any prior indication that this was planned EA server maintenance today across all games, so hopefully we’re not talking about an attack of some sort.

10

The official EA FIFA account on Twitter mentions no planned maintenance, so hopefully EA are aware that the servers have just gone down globally and are working on a fix asap.

Odegaard: Real Madrid Was Best Option

16

A complete unknown only a year ago, Norwegian prodigy Martin Odegaard’s transfer to Real Madrid has set his fledgling career soaring towards the summit.

The 16-year-old midfielder had long been courted by some of Europe’s top clubs. Real, Bayern Munich, Arsenal and Liverpool were all, according to press reports, in the race to sign the teenager. Finally, a deal with the Spanish giants was announced Thursday, clearing the way for him to join a number of world stars in midfield.

“I felt it was the best option for the way I could develop both on a sporting level and in my personal life, so it had the best possibilities for me,” he said Thursday.

Before joining the likes of Cristiano Ronaldo, Gareth Bale, James Rodriguez, Toni Kroos and Karim Benzema after the summer he will spend the spring playing for Castilla — the club’s youth team, coached by Zinedine Zidane.

8

“My goal is quite simply to become a better footballer,” he said. “Whether I play with the first or second team makes no difference. It will come when it comes.”

A dream come true for a boy who just celebrated his 16th birthday on 17 December. The rapid turn of events will not be unfamiliar to Odegaard, who already has three international appearances for Norway to his name. When he joined the first team of Stroemsgodset, the club of his native city of Drammen, in April 2014, he became the youngest player to ever play in the Norwegian first division. A month later, he became the league’s youngest scorer.

9

Odegaard scored five goals and provided seven assists in his 23 games for the club. His prowess quickly drew attention as videos of the then 15-year-old running circles around his opponents created an online buzz that spread to the Scandinavian sports press. He was soon called up to the national team, where he broke new records. Odegaard became the youngest Norwegian international in history in August — only 15 years and 253 days old — and later the youngest ever to feature in a UEFA EURO qualifier, in October against Bulgaria.

“He has developed enormously in a short time. He brought down barriers that I think neither he nor anyone else imagined would fall,” Norway manager Per-Mathias Hoegmo recently told the Aftenposten daily. “His way of playing, his talent, his ability to make choices and think, all of this is impressive,” he added.

Madrid team-mates await with anticipation
His gifts have not gone unnoticed around Europe. Many of the continent’s greatest clubs have reportedly been interested in signing the Norwegian. Press reports linked Ajax Amsterdam with an imminent deal, while others said Bayern was first in line. The German team’s president, Karl-Heinz Rummenigge, said Odegaard was the “talent of the century”.

009

The teenager and his father Hans Erik — himself a former professional — toured several clubs over recent months to visit facilities and meet senior representatives. Hans Erik’s demand was for his son not to spend time with the reserves of a great team, but to train and play with the best. According to sports media, Zidane played a key role in convincing the Norwegian to start out at Castilla in the Spanish third division before joining the first team. His future team-mates already await his arrival with anticipation.

“A good player. I think he’s a young boy, he can still grow,” Ronaldo said of his new team-mate. “He has a good future ahead. So we must give him time to learn, to take the best decisions but I see a lot of potential in that player,” he added before picking up his third FIFA Ballon d’Or award.

“So we must give him time to learn, to take the best decisions but I see a lot of potential in that player. A good left foot.”

Balotelli Agent Raiola Latest to Enter FIFA Race

4

LONDON (Reuters) – Another wildcard has entered the pack of candidates challenging Sepp Blatter for the presidency of FIFA in May’s election — Mino Raiola, a soccer agent whose clients include Mario Balotelli and Zlatan Ibrahimovic.

The 47-year-old Dutchman with Italian roots needs to prove five football associations support his bid and that he has been active in football for at least two of the last five years before the deadline for submitting bids expires at midnight next Friday, Jan. 29.

“I’m getting violently sick when I think that Blatter could be re-elected,” he is quoted as saying by the Daily Telegraph.

Raiola, agent of Barcelona's player Ibrahimovic, speaks to the media as he arrives at FC Barcelona's office in Barcelona

Former FIFA deputy secretary general Jerome Champagne of France and FIFA’s Asian vice-president Prince Ali Bin Al-Hussein of Jordan are considered the only serious contenders, although Champagne has admitted he does not yet have five nominations.

David Ginola, the former France international, announced his candidature last week at a press conference in London dismissed as a publicity stunt as it was organised by a betting firm.

The vote for the presidency takes place at the FIFA congress in Zurich on May 29.

FIFA’s Handling of The Case of Alpha to Be Recognized

2

Nice have shared a new Football Association statement supporting their case to be allowed to register recent signing Hatem Ben Arfa.

Ben Arfa, 27, capped 13 times by France, is yet to feature for his new side due to article 5.3 of FIFA’s transfer regulations, which prevents players representing three clubs in the same season.

The Frenchman spent time on loan at Hull this season and also appeared for Newcastle’s under-21 team, a match FIFA indicated last week “must be considered as official” and “must be taken into consideration in determining the application of article 5.3.”

4

That is in opposition to the view of the English Football Association, and Nice have called for a quick resolution after receiving written confirmation from the FA that: “We do not consider U21 games to be official matches.”

And a Nice statement on Thursday read: “As some people are obviously having trouble interpreting the English federation’s first letter sent at the start of January, OGC Nice appreciate that the FA has written another letter on Wednesday to dispel any ambiguity.

“It is perfectly explicit. Crucially, you can read therein the following phrase: ‘We do not consider U21 games to be official matches’. This confirmation leaves no doubt as to its interpretation, especially as the English federation has taken care to reinforce this position in its letter.

“We hope that with this clarification, the relevant bodies can now announce their decision without hesitation.”

Andre Soulier, president of the French league’s legal commission, asked the French Football Federation on Tuesday to obtain a “clear and firm” position from FIFA.

The Week’ Section On Fifa 15

16

These Reigning Days track Thrones has been chosen as the soundtrack by EA Games for their “Goals of the Week’ section on Fifa 15.

The band also play three amazing dates in India this week.

Jan 22 : The Emerge Festival, India, Bluefrog, Mumbai
Jan 23 : The Emerge Festival, India, The Hummingtree, Bengaluru
Jan 24 : Summerhouse Cafe, The Emerge Festival, India, New Delhi

3

You can see the new video to Thrones below.

These Reigning Days music is often described as anthemic, epic stadium rock. It fuses layers of strong but understated guitar lines with a twisting, indie-pop synth sound that quietly drives the compositions. Drawing on a great range of influences their songs, penned by Dan Steer, are memorable, danceable and instantly accessible whilst still retaining much depth for those who want to glean more. Dan’s stunning unique and powerful vocals and soaring guitar are underpinned with a pulsing rhythm section from drum phenomenon Joe Sansome and formidable bassist Jonny Finnis.

FIFA Also Lost Three Sponsors

4

London: FIFA have rejected suggestions that major sponsors were cutting their ties with the organisation because it was a “toxic brand”, saying on Friday that they were in advanced negotiations with new sponsors eager to replace the old.

Britain`s Daily Telegraph revealed on Friday that three major sponsors, Continental, Castrol and Johnson & Johnson, were not renewing their contracts with world soccer`s governing body.

Emirates Airlines and Sony announced last year that they were also severing their ties with FIFA.

But FIFA`s marketing director Thierry Weil told Reuters on Friday that those companies contracts with FIFA were always due to expire at the end of last year and new ones were negotiating to take their place.

“Rotations at the end of a sponsorship cycle are commonplace in the sports industry and have continuously occurred since the commercialisation of the FIFA World Cup began,” Weil said.

“It is natural that as brands’ strategies evolve they reassess their sponsorship properties. The contracts were always planned to run until the end of 2014.

“As in previous FIFA World Cup cycles, we are now in advanced negotiations with a number of companies related to sponsorship agreements in all three of our categories.

0

But not everyone is convinced that FIFA, who have been buffeted by one crisis after another over the last few years, is still a name sponsors want to be associated with.

Damian Collins, the British MP and the guiding light behind the pressure group New FIFA Now which was launched in Brussels on Wednesday, said he believed sponsors were cutting ties as a result of the scandals and controversies that continually surround FIFA.

“FIFA is a toxic brand,” Collins was quoted as saying in the Daily Telegraph.

“I think that`s why companies who care about their reputation don`t want to be considered with it.”

Sponsors bring in at least $1.5 billion in revenue over each four-year cycle.

Castrol had been a World Cup sponsor since 2008, Continental Tyres since 2010 and Johnson & Johnson signed a deal for a single cycle in 2011.

Meanwhile the sportswear company SKINS, whose chairman Jamie Fuller was a delegate at the launch of New FIFA Now, launched a light-hearted “non-sponsorship” relationship with the governing body.

In a statement on Friday the company said: “The non-multi-million pound, announcement allows the company to highlight unshared brand values and confirms SKINS` contempt for an organisation which has been constantly shrouded in allegations of corruption and controversy, yet is potentially preparing to re-elect its President Sepp Blatter for an unprecedented fifth term in office.

“This anti-FIFA stance is intended to be fun and engaging but it carries a very serious message in support of newfifanow.org.”

FIFA Loses Three World Cup Sponsors

2

Oil manufacturers Castrol, tyre and car parts business Continental and healthcare company Johnson & Johnson have each chosen not to extend deals with FIFA, the Daily Telegraph reported.

The three companies were among a group of eight businesses identified as ‘World Cup sponsors’ by FIFA, which also had six top-tier ‘partners’ at the time of the 2014 tournament. It was confirmed in November that two of the elite group of backers, Sony and Emirates, had ended their relationships with FIFA, with Moscow-based oil and gas giant Gazprom joining ahead of the 2018 World Cup in Russia.

The Daily Telegraph reports Castrol stating : “We have not been sponsors of FIFA since, I believe, the World Cup last year.”

Of its own decision to end its FIFA association, Johnson & Johnson told the newspaper: “It was a decision that was made for business reasons after a comprehensive review.”

1

Continental stated: “It was a great platform for us and now we’re using football on a regionalised level.”

Campaigners lobbying for reform of FIFA, which has faced a number of instances and allegations of corruption, have said they will target its sponsors.

The strategy emerged at this week’s ‘New FIFA Now’ summit in Brussels, the first organised campaign to challenge the leadership of FIFA in its 111-year history.

Former Football Association chairman Lord Triesman, who has previously made allegations in Parliament about FIFA corruption surrounding the bidding for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups, attacked the culture and governance of FIFA under president Sepp Blatter.

Jaimie Fuller, the chairman of the SKINS sportswear company who has previously campaigned for reform of cycling, announced he will be writing to all FIFA sponsors.

Candidates for the FIFA presidency must secure five nominations from national associations by January 29, with the contest in May expected to be a battle between long-term incumbent Blatter and Prince Ali Bin Al Hussein from Jordan.

Winter Transfer Will Be Frequently Updated In The Future

7

The development team at EA Sports is announcing that it is now commencing the winter transfer process for FIFA 15, which is designed to reflect the real world moves that are taking place during the January window and get all the important players to their new teams so that fans can use them in a variety of modes.

The official announcement explains that the studio wants to implement the changes as fast as possible, possibly even just a few days after they are finalized in the real world.

The first batch of FIFA 15 winter transfers includes plenty of team changes, including the biggest move so far, that of striker Wilfried Bony who is no longer part of the Swansea line-up and is ready to star for Manchester City, and more will be delivered soon.

Fans should keep in mind that there’s a difference between the moment when a player is confirmed as making a move by the media and the moment when all the paperwork related to it goes through and the move is fully official.Constant updates are the key to success.

6 5

The impact of the changes will be felt across all game modes that are included in FIFA 15, which means that there are also some changes for Ultimate Team.

EA Sports adds, “We will make these changes as quickly as possible, so expect multiple updates throughout January and early February. Please note that this only applies to new items found in packs. If you obtained a player item prior to their transfer, their item will not change while in your collection.”

Many gamers were expecting the studio to introduce one major update when the January window closes.

The system chosen by EA Sports has the advantage of being faster to implement changes, but it can also pose some problems for gamers who cannot keep track of all the changes.

The player community has also been pushing the development team to deliver at least one major title update for FIFA 15, designed to tweak some of the gameplay mechanics that are seen as underpar, which includes using pace to get through defenses and crosses.

So far, EA Sports has not said whether it has plans to modify how the title is played in the near future.
